welcome!

lissanneHi, I’m Lissanne. I’m a Professional Organiser based in Melbourne, Australia. I run a company called SORTED! organising & decluttering. I help people organise their space and create more efficient homes and offices. I love getting rid of clutter but am a big fan of balance… it’s not about living a minimalist life!

I have a book called sorted! due for release in October 2007. I share many organising secrets: tangled power cords? managing mail and paperwork, systems for paying bills and many simple philosophies that will get you organised and free from clutter!

You might like to check out my website: www.sorted.net.auLissanneIn this blog you’ll find tips, ideas and discussions all about organising (or organizing!). That includes stuff about the dreaded curse of clutter, efficiency and making the most of that precious resource: time. Another precious resource is money…. so here’s a question…. does being organised save you money? Or is it overrated?

I wholeheartedly agree that being organised saves money. Every few months I do a ‘wardrobe audit’ where I set aside a few hours to go through all my clothes, deciding which items can be culled and which ones can stay. (If this becomes a regular habit it’s less time consuming each time you do it.)

An ‘audit’ not only prevents a build up of unworn clothes but also allows me to identify ‘gaps’ and ‘double-ups’ – sometimes you have far more black tops than you think you do! If you do an audit at the beginning of each season you’ll have a fair idea of which items you need and can therefore shop with a more clearly defined agenda. Repeating the process at the end of the season allows you to identify the items that have worked well with your other clothes and perhaps need to be replaced, and which ones are just taking up space.

The money saving aspect to this tip lies in the fact that once you have a good idea of what you have and, perhaps what you need, you can shop with a lot more discrimination – which from experience has prevented a lot of impulse purchases. You’ll also have a much better idea of the outfits you can pull together, so next time there’s a special occasion you won’t run out and buy an entirely new, and usually expensive, outfit in panic.

Another bonus is that you can sell all your good quality cast offs on e-bay.

Running a hugely busy business means I’m always time poor, and tend to be a hoarder of paper (just ask the staff here who encourage us to be more electronic friendly and naturally tree-friendly). I recently had the pleasure of a friend’s 9 year old daughter spending time in the office while her mother had a job to do. This gorgeous young’un tidied my desk, saying I had too much clutter. Her mother has an art-directed type of home, so Maddie is growing up an organised-chick. How good is that Liss? Get them young with an organised mind and see what the next generation will be like!

Good for you on your business and continuing growth!

    Connie
